Mummenschanz, "the musicians of science," bring their unique brand of performance to Mayo Performing Arts Center on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $29-$59.
Since its successful three year run on Broadway, Swiss-based theater troupe MUMMENSCHANZ has pioneered a new form of visual theater that has since spawned multiple new genres reclaiming their legacy. MUMMENSCHANZ has been dazzling audiences worldwide for more than 45 years. By creating a playful yet compelling experience through the inventive use of shadow, light, and creative manipulation of objects, MUMMENSCHANZ offers timeless insight on the human condition. The result is a visually stunning spectacle that transcends cultural barriers and sparks the imagination.
The 2017-2018 season will see a brand new creation, "you & me," by the visionary MUMMENSCHANZ troupe with new performers bringing to life the large scale masks you've grown to love; as well as reviving a historic tradition of acrobatics. The show will also include some of the classic sketches that have stood the test of time.
"you & me" will focus on the love and mutual joy the audiences and performers experience in MUMMENSCHANZ's one of a kind theatrical performances, hence the title "you & me." "'you & me' is the intimacy we go into," said
Floriana Frassetto, founder of MUMMENSCHANZ. "I give you my idea and you play with my idea and you make it your idea."
The MUSICIANS OF SILENCE, their soundtrack is the awe, joy and laughter their audiences experience and have grown to love for the last 45 years. The company will continue this tradition with their fresh, brand new show, touring the United States, for the first time ever in the Spring of 2018. "The sound is the audience that laughs, that sighs, that whispers, that makes comments. It's like a cartoon coming alive in front of you," Frassetto added.
