Mile Square Theatre (MST), Hudson County's premiere professional theatre company, presents two events in its upcoming Fall Performance Fest - a reading of Stacie Lent's play Laugh Out Loud (cry quietly), which will be performed on October 9 at 8 pm; and Sarah Weber Gallo's dance/theatre installation Much Ado About Cucumbers & Cigars on October 17 and 18 at 8 pm. Performances will be held at the Monroe Theatrespace (located at 720 Monroe St. in Hoboken, 2nd Floor).

Called "the best comedy of the year" by Peter Filichia of TheaterMania, Laugh Out Loud (cry quietly) by Stacie Lents is a play about the trials of internet dating and the miseries of being a twenty-something that will have you laughing-and not just by text message. As moving as it is funny, this staged reading by the playwright of Henry's Law (featured in last year's Fall Fest) is a feel-good evening for audiences of all ages.

Much Ado About Cucumbers & Cigars interweaves the narratives of two real women - The Beautiful Cigar Girl and Cucumber Girl - whose stories bare remarkable parallels. The Beautiful Cigar Girl washed up dead at the mouth of Sybil's fresh-water cave in Hoboken, in 1841, the brutally murdered victim of a botched abortion. She was later immortalized in a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. Cucumber Girl is a contemporary young woman, also from Hoboken, who is both object and subject of a spate of vulgar and highly sexualized graffiti in the local playgrounds. Both narratives are illuminated through dance and text, while a propulsive rock sound score centered in the Riot Grrrl punk movement provides the musical backbone of the piece.

Much Ado About Cucumbers & Cigars is choreographed and directed by the Metropolitan Opera Ballet's Sarah Weber Gallo, a resident of Hoboken, and features an ensemble of dancers and performers led by Julliard grad Michelle Vargo, Sam Meredith (Broadway's Swan Lake and Sleep No More), and MST company member Jen Ring. The show is produced by MST associate artist Joseph Gallo (My Italy Story).

"We are thrilled to have Sarah's piece in our theatre," says Chris O'Connor, MST's Artistic Director. "Her work will prove to be inventive and theatrical and is very different than anything else we've presented thus far. Stacie's play Laugh Out Loud (cry quietly) is a hysterical look at modern dating, and we're pleased she's coming back after being a part of the festival last year with a sold out performance of her play Henry's Law."

Laugh Out Loud (cry quietly) is presented on October 9 @ 8pm. Tickets are $12 ($6 for students and seniors).

Much Ado About Cucumbers & Cigars runs on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18, at 8 pm. Tickets are $15.

Both shows will be presented by Mile Square Theatre at the Monroe Theatrespace (located at 720 Monroe Street in Hoboken, 2nd Floor), and are available at www.milesquaretheatre.org, and at the Monroe Theatrespace box office, or by calling 201-683-7014 for reservations.
