New York actor, teacher, and producer, Michael Fischetti will be at Cape May Stage on Monday evening, October 19 at 8 p.m. reading a collection of poetry about the human condition in a time of war called We Are All Brothers: Anti-War Poetry Through the Ages. As we debate our nation's involvement in Afghanistan, Mr. Fischetti will repeat his New York triumph with poems from Homer to Owen to our most contemporary voices in the Equity theatre's Second Stage Series. Performing a selection of timeless pieces that Fischetti selected, this performance is sure to challenge certain beliefs, raise questions, and inspire future discussions.
Hailed as a "powerful manifesto with superbly chosen poems" by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Phillip Levine, Fischetti includes the sublime poetry of ancient Greece, Rome, and China, from the dead poets of the numbered wars on both sides of the front, to our own contemporaries. This selection of anti-war poetry stems from a vast range of international literature and can be found in every country and in every age. Because poets are compelled to write about what concerns the people, Fischetti's dramatic presentation not only shows that war is the cause of pain, suffering, and injustice, but also brings to life the human existence in connection with war.
In addition to this popular spoken word performance, Fischetti studied acting at the Moscow Art Theatre and the Actor's Studio. He has since enjoyed a noteworthy acting career in New York and in regional theatres throughout the United States and Canada. On Broadway, he understudied Judd Hirsch in Lanford Wilson's Pulitzer winner Talley's Folly. Off-Broadway, his credits include Samuel Beckett's Endgame, Eugene O'Neill's Hughie, Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge, and David Mamet's Glengarry GLen Ross to name a few. Film credits include Prizzi's Honor with Jack Nicholson, Frank Gilroy's The Gig, F/X, Internal Affairs, Sea of Love with Al Pacino, and Love Affair with Warren Beatty. Fischetti taught acting classes at the Folkine Ballet Company, was Co-Artistic Director of the South Street Theatre, and is a founding member of the 42nd Street Theater Row.After a successful summer of world-class entertainment, Cape May Stage's Second Stage Series continues to fill the theatre during traditionally ‘dark nights' with additional programming for patrons. Presenting high-caliber talent, such as Fischetti's unique poetry collection, resonates with Artistic Director Roy Steinberg's vision of giving theatergoers widely diverse entertainment all season long.
