The Mayo Center for the Performing Arts has announced its summer season:
On June 1st, The Go Go's take the stage. The most popular all-female band to emerge from the punk/new wave explosion of the late '70s and early '80s is back with new renditions of such hits as "Our Lips are Sealed," "We've Got the Beat," "Vacation" and "Head Over Heels".
New Jersey Symphony Orchestra: Best of Ballet performs on June 2nd. Ballet has the power to transcend time, place and even the force of gravity. It can tell stories or simply express the essence of music. "Best of Ballet" brings together an alluring selection of choreographic favorites, including excerpts from The Nutcracker, The Firebird, Appalachian Spring, Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Fancy Free.
Then, on June 4th, Bill Cosby appears. Comedy icon Bill Cosby dazzles fans young and old with humor that transcends age, gender and cultural barriers. Sponsored by RBC Wealth Management.
The Choir of the Pope's Diocese of Rome will perform on June 8th. Founded in 1984 by Don Marco Frisina in the service of the Church of Rome and its Bishop, the Pope, this acclaimed choir makes its first U.S. tour, featuring a program that includes classical pieces and original works by Maestro Frisina that are both spiritual and inspirational.
The Monkees -- Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones and Peter Tork - perform hits such as "I'm a Believer," "Daydream Believer" and "Last Train to Clarksville" that have made them pop culture icons and fan favorites since the 1960s. They're schedule for June 9th.
On June 28th, Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers perform. You may know him as an actor, comedian and writer, but Steve Martin is also a Grammy-nominated banjoist. Martin performs music from latest bluegrass release, Rare Bird Alert, accompanied by The Steep Canyon Rangers, in a down home fun evening of traditional bluegrass. (Note: This is a bluegrass performance, not a comedy concert).
