Major Attaway, Catherine Brunell, Natalie Cortez And James Moye Headline Concert For Alzheimer's Awareness

Broadway stars Major Attaway, Catherine Brunell, Natalie Cortez and James Moye will form a special cast for When Broadway Goes Dark, Van Dyk Goes Live, a benefit concert to support Alzheimer's awareness Monday, November 12th at 7:00pm at Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, NJ.

The cast will perform a two-hour show, featuring a medley of popular Broadway show tunes, in honor of National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month. This benefit concert, slated when Broadway shows are dark, aims to build greater public awareness of the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Alzheimer's kills more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.

"Alzheimer's affects millions of Americans and their caregivers," said Bob Van Dyk, CEO of Van Dyk Health Care. "We need to prepare our communities for the greatest epidemic facing seniors. We're partnering with these amazing Broadway performers not only because of the magic and meaning they bring to their music. They have their own stories of how Alzheimer's has affected them. It's time we all come forward with these stories and fight this disease together."

Attaway is granting wishes on Broadway as the Genie in Aladdin. Brunell starred as Portia in the Broadway hit, Something Rotten!, as well as the title roles in Broadway's Mary Poppins and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Cortez just completed the pre-Broadway run of Moulin Rouge, slated to open on Broadway in 2019, and she starred as Anita in the Broadway revival of West Side Story and as Diana Morales in the 2006 revival of A Chorus Line. Moye has performed in Broadway's Dear Evan Hansen, Aladdin, Bullets Over Broadway, Million Dollar Quartet and The Full Monty.

The band will be led by Eugene Gwozdz, currently Music Director for American Dance Machine for the 21st Century. Joining him will be percussionist Roger Cohen (Rocktopia) and bassist Jim Donica (The Visit and Allegiance).

The event will be held at the Bergen Performing Arts Center, located at 30 N. Van Brunt St, Englewood, NJ. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Bergen PAC box office at 201-227-1030 or online at TicketMaster.com. General seating begins at 6:15pm.

Net proceeds will go to Alzheimer's New Jersey and CaringKind, both local nonprofit organizations that raise awareness in New Jersey and New York City respectively.

A special VIP pre-show reception will be hosted by Van Dyk Family Wines, founded by Bob & Elizabeth Van Dyk to honor the old vines of society and raise money for Alzheimer's and memory care nonprofits. Their inaugural wines, the 2010 Dignity (Cabernet Sauvignon) and the 2011 Respect (Chardonnay), were named in support of their motto of "Celebrating Our Elderly with Dignity and Respect." Bob Van Dyk received a lifetime achievement award in 2017 from the American Health Care Association & National Center for Assisted Living for his leadership in the senior care profession.
