This weekend Union County Performing Arts Center hosts two performers with legendary musical pedigrees: singer/songwriter Louise Goffin and jazz virtuoso Chris Brubeck.

Louise Goffin, daughter of songwriters Carole King and Gerry Goffin, takes the stage Friday, Apr. 17, with songwriter Aly Tadros opening. The concert is part of UCPAC's Split Level Concert Series highlighting renowned singer-songwriters in a uniquely intimate setting.

Chris Brubeck and his trio Triple Play perform Saturday Apr. 18. The concert is part of the RSI Bank Jazz Masters Series and receives additional support from the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation's Jazz Touring Network.

Both concerts are at 8 p.m. at Union County Performing Arts Center, 1601 Irving Street, Rahway. Tickets can be purchased by calling the UCPAC Box Office at (732) 499-8226 or visiting www.ucpac.org. Louise Goffin tickets are $25 advance, $27 door; Chris Brubeck & Triple Play tickets are $25.

Louise Goffin and Chris Brubeck are standout examples of offspring who embodied and extended the musical talents of their acclaimed parents.

Making her first professional recording at age 14, Louise blossomed into a modern-day renaissance musician - singer-songwriter, recording artist and record producer of a Grammy-nominated record for mom Carole King, A Holiday Carole. Louise has toured the world on electric guitar with Tears For Fears and played banjo with Bryan Ferry. For many who grew up with The Gilmore Girls hit TV show, Louise's voice can be heard with Carole's on the duet in the opening theme "Where You Lead".

Louise has released seven solo albums of her own. Her most recent studio recording, Appleonfire, features Jakob Dylan on the opening track "Take A Giant Step" and Joseph Arthur on a duet with Louise for "If I'm Late". The new EP boasts original songs including a stunning, previously unreleased co-write with her father, Gerry Goffin, titled "I'm Not Rich But I'm Not Poor".

Triple Play is three outstanding and versatile musicians - Peter Madcat Ruth (harmonica, guitar, jaw harp, percussion, vocals), Joel Brown (folk and classical acoustic guitar, vocals) and Chris Brubeck (electric bass, bass trombone, piano, vocals).??

Collectively, Triple Play presents a vast and vivid repertoire encompassing Delta blues, Tin Pan Alley standards, New Orleans grooves, classic jazz gems and incisive originals.

Chris Brubeck is the son of famed jazz musician/composer Dave Brubeck, whose daring fusion of jazz and classical styles influenced a new generation of young musicians worldwide in the 1950s and '60s.

In addition to working with his dad and brothers Dan and Darius in Two Generations of Brubeck, Chris has played in the rock groups Sky King and New Heavenly Blue, recorded two records with guitarist Larry Coryell and a trio LP with keyboard master Andy LaVerne.
