Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University, the historic former residence of New Jersey's first elected governor, William Livingston, is in full holiday swing. Its Christmas tour, A Wartime Christmas, is quickly becoming a favorite among visitors. Five different rooms of the museum has been transformed to allow guests to experience Christmas as it was on the homefront during the American Revolution (1776), the War of 1812, the Civil War (1862), World War I (1917) and World War II (1942). Visitors will see how Christmas decorating has changed over time and how wartime affects the holiday season.
Liberty Hall's Gingerbread House Workshop is a favorite of patrons old and new. Make your reservation today because tickets are going fast. Space is still available for the workshops taking place on December 9 and 16 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. and 1 - 2:30 p.m. The fee is $25 for each child and one adult; all additional adults are $5 each.
A special holiday treat is Liberty Hall Museum's evening event, Holiday Lantern Tours, happening one weekend only on Friday and Saturday, December 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. or 9 p.m. Take the A Wartime Christmas tour by the warm glow of lantern light, as you recreate the holiday experience of Liberty Hall's earliest residents. You will learn firsthand - through personal accounts and letters - how war affected the Livingston and Kean families. Hot chocolate and doughnuts will be served following the tour.
