On Friday April 24, Kelsey Theatre will host a special "Pride Night" performance of the student theatrical "Angels in America - The Millennium Approaches." The theatre is located on the campus of Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor, NJ.

The show, beginning at 8 p.m., is a benefit for the James Tolin Memorial Scholarship Fund, which benefits a promising student with a scholarship to pursue study in the field of theatre, and the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, and Friends (LGBTF) club. Kelsey Theatre especially invites members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community and their friends to join the actors for refreshments in the theatre lobby during intermission and after the show.

The special production is offered in conjunction with the Mercer County Community College Theatre and Entertainment Technology programs, the LGBTF club and the James Tolin Memorial Fund. James Tolin was a student at MCCC, and affiliated with the theatre during his teaching career at the college. His colleagues started the memorial fund six years ago to benefit individuals living with HIV and/or HCV by contributing to support groups via The Open Arms Foundation (Hillsborough NJ). They also implemented the scholarship fund.

In order to further raise AIDS awareness, representatives of the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of HIV/AIDS Services, Prevention and Education Unit will be on hand April 24 to offer counseling and rapid HIV testing, and will provide HIV prevention literature.
Heralded by audiences and critics, "Angels in America, Part I" is recognized as a contemporary theatrical masterpiece. Set in New York City in the mid-1980s, the show unfolds amidst the devastating outbreak of AIDS. The play charts an epic journey through the interconnected lives of a vivid cast of characters as they stumble from human failing toward the possibility of redemption. Observes the show's director, Jody P. Person, coordinator of the MCCC Theatre and Dance Programs, "Angels is both a deeply personal and universal statement on illness, fear, change, and the ever-present need for hope."

Performance dates and show times are: Fridays, April 17 and 24 at 8 p.m., Saturdays, April 18 and 25 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 26 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $10 for students. (The show contains adult themes and language and is not recommended for children.) Tickets may be purchased in person at the Kelsey Theatre box office, by phone at 609-570-3333, or online.

Free parking is available next to the theatre. Kelsey Theatre is wheelchair accessible and provides assisted listening devices upon request. Note: The show contains adult themes and language and is not recommended for children.
