The Department of Theatre at Kean University will reunite decades of alumni in Encore! a Theatre Retrospective, on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in Kean's Wilkins Theatre. Encore! will feature songs, scenes, and stories that trace the history of theatre at Kean. "Our earliest records of theatre activity at Kean go back to 1928, well before we moved to the present campus in Union," says producer Karen Hart. Students will recreate roles they once played, or step into roles that they had dreamed of playing.

The cast is comprised of one hundred and seventy-five performers: the stars of the past - sixty-four alumni from various eras; stars of the present - eighteen current theatre majors; and stars of the future - one hundred and one students from the Union County Academy for the Performing Arts, with whom Kean's Department of Theatre is partnering in the training of our future artists.

Holly Logue, director and current Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Kean, says "Encore! is being created to serve three purposes. One is to provide a memorable evening's entertainment for our devoted campus and community audience. Two is to reunite our alumni and introduce them to the new Kean University. Three is to promote the arts at Kean and raise awareness and funding for a theatre scholarship." Logue partners with choreographer and musical director, both Kean alumni, Michele Mossay-Cuevas and Joe Regan. Resident costume designer, Karen Hart is producing the event, with support from Susan Halmi, alumnus and office manager in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Professor Hart has dug deep into the university archives to uncover treasures from the past, including the name of the first theatre graduate, Ben Marshall. Alumni are filling other important roles such as lighting designer, stage manager, playwright, publicist, graphic designer, and historian.

The performance will be preceded by a silent audition in the lobby of the theatre where items such as signed works of art, a handmade blanket, memorabilia from earlier productions at Kean, and theatre tickets will be auctioned. To participate in the auction, it is recommended that you arrive at the theatre by 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for Encore! are available at the Kean University box office, 908-737-SHOW or online at http://keanstage.com/. Kean University is located at 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J.
