Grammy-nominated singer and guitarist John Pizzarelli joins the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra for the NJSO's first pops program of the season-"Home for the Holidays"-December 14 in Newark and December 15 in New Brunswick. Conductor Thomas Wilkins, a frequent NJSO guest conductor and audience favorite, leads concerts that feature the Salvation Army Montclair Citadel Band and the New Jersey High School Holiday Chorus.
Pizzarelli brings his Signature Sound to timeless holiday standards like "Let it Snow" and "White Christmas," supported by the NJSO and his band-pianist Larry Fuller, bassist Martin Pizzarelli and drummer Tony Tedesco. The Salvation Army Montclair Citadel Band performs "Farandole" from Bizet's L'Arlésienne Suite No. 2 and holiday favorites.
The New Jersey High School Holiday Chorus joins the NJSO in songs of the season, including "We Need a Little Christmas," "The Best Christmas of All" and "Star Carol" and "Angel's Carol." The ensemble, created especially for these NJSO holiday concerts, brings together some of the best young-adult choral artists from across the state. Members of this select ensemble have been selected for prestigious honors choirs including the NAfME All-National, All-Eastern and All-State Choruses, among others.
Performances take place on Saturday, December 14, (8 pm) at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark and Sunday, December 15, (3 pm) at the State Theatre in New Brunswick. The December 15 performance is presented in collaboration with the State Theatre.
Before each concert, patrons can hear Christmas carols in the concert-hall lobby. Patrons can bring a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots and can donate to the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign.
