The Jazz Vocal Collective is all about nurturing a "give and take" between musicians and vocalists on the necessary skills needed on the bandstand and preferred by veteran instrumentalists. On the surface, jazz singing is like any other form of singing. A closer look at today's bandstand considering all of its virtuosity... Where does the jazz singer fit in? There is something to be said for the mechanics and technique of singing, however, jazz singing is an art. The Jazz Vocal Collective's mission is to quantify and examine the art. A musician's approach to singing jazz is quite different than your average vocal teacher. One is not better than the other, it's just different. Moreover, there is something simply wonderful about being an integral part of and experiencing the democracy within a jazz ensemble in the moment and on the spot.

This is great opportunity for performers to try out new material, increase their repertoire, work on showmanship, develop self-confidence, network, and advertise your upcoming shows.

The workshop is presented by Carrie Jackson, a recording artist and jazz vocalist. She has a 20 year career as a performer and has taught numerous workshops and instructed gospel choirs for years. Carrie studied voice and piano under the tutelage of Howard "Duke" Anderson, the composer/arranger and performed with his All Star Big Band.

The workshop will be accompanied by Bob De Benedette. Please feel free to bring your music sheets/charts for a fun filled session.
