The JCC Thurnauer School of Music, New Jersey's leading community music school, named a Major Arts Institution by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, is pleased to announce its Fall 2011 Open House, Sunday, September 18, 1 to 4 p.m., part of the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades' (411 East Clinton Avenue) Fall Open House. The schedule will feature activities for students of all ages, including registration for the fall semester, which begins Wednesday, October 5.

The Open House will include music classes for young children, aged 18 months to 9 years, designed to teach music through movement. Classes include Musical Toddlers (ages 18 to 35 months, with adult supervision); I've Got Rhythm (ages 3 to 4 and 4 to 5); and Do You Hear What I Hear? (ages 4 to 5 and 8 to 9).

Activities will also include a multi-instrument student recital; an instrumental "petting zoo," where students and parents can try different instruments and speak to faculty members, including founding director Dorothy Kaplan Roffman; a jazz jam session; and much more. Auditions for the music school's flute choir will take place after the Open House, at 4 p.m. Please see below for a complete schedule.

"We are very excited to host our Fall Open House and to be a part of the Fall Open House at the JCC," Roffman said. "This event is a wonderful way to meet prospective students and their parents and share with them the fun, wonder, and sense of camaraderie and achievement that comes through the study of music. We invite everyone to join us on September 18 to learn more about our school."
At the Fall Open House, students of all ages, adults included, may register for the music school's 2011-2012 season. The school's in-depth curriculum, offering lessons, classes, and ensembles, is meticulously designed to develop not only complete musicians and but also well-rounded people, using the study of music to cultivate skills applicable to any profession or endeavor.
"The school's curriculum ensures that all students, regardless of prior experience, reach their highest levels of proficiency," Roffman said. "Our students acquire skills that will contribute to lifelong achievement no matter what their pursuits."
