J City Theater Returns After 4-Year Hiatus With CLARK GABLE SLEPT HERE ImageOn May 4th, 2018, after a 4-year hiatus, J CITY Theater relaunches their theater company with a new jet-black comedy: Clark Gable SLEPT HERE, by Michael McKeever at their new location - The Barrow Mansion, 83 Wayne Street. Performances begin at 8pm. Audiences are encouraged to reserve tickets due to limited seating and a limited run. The show is scheduled to close on May 19th.

Clark Gable SLEPT HERE opens with a dead (and naked) male hooker in the Penthouse of the famed Hollywood Hotel, Chateau Marmont - and gets progressively wilder from there. The room had been rented by the world's biggest Action Movie Star, but he's not there. He's blissfully on his way to the Golden Globe Awards, leaving behind his management team to clean up the mess and keep the secret.

Stephen Hope, last seen in J CITY's production of Tuna Christmas, plays the megastar's manager. Teaming up with a Hollywood 'fixer', Morgan Wright played by Sandy Cockrell, he struggles to keep the lid on this volatile nightmare and protect his closeted client. Witness to the chaos is the hotel's maid, Estella, played by Ali De Leon and the hotel's uptight manager Gage Holland (Clay Cockrell).

Ms. Cockrell, J CITY Theater's Artistic Director says the script is just "Flat out fun! In a world of glamor, illusion, and Botox - we get to see the crazy reality beneath the glitter. I always try to choose scripts that are well written, truthful, and challenging - and this one hits all the marks with the added benefit of being really, really funny."

"Since this is our first show in four years, we wanted to come back with a bang - something that will be audience pleasing and fun to do. It just feels great to be back with such a fantastic show," says J CITY Theater Executive Director Clay Cockrell.

J CITY Theater, after many seasons of successful productions in downtown Jersey City, lost their performance space at St Michael's Church on Hamilton Park four years ago. Their search for a new home has finally led them to the Barrow Mansion on Wayne Street where they hope to begin a regular production schedule. Ms. Cockrell says "The Barrow Mansion has been incredibly welcoming and supportive of us. They have an amazing space that allows us to create our work on the highest levels and we look forward to building a great relationship with them."

Before losing their home, J CITY Theater was one of the leading theaters in Hudson County, known for producing plays that were engaging and thought provoking. With over 10 years of audience-pleasing performances, their successes saw great reviews in both The New York Times and The Star Ledger. They are a professional company, employing actors and stage managers that are members of the Actor's Equity Association. Their productions have focused on re-staging Tony Award winning and Pulitzer Prize Award winning scripts.

"Our audiences have always been our greatest champions," said Ms. Cockrell. There hasn't been a week gone by that we haven't received an email or been stopped on the street by a former audience member to tell us that they miss us and hope we come back soon. Their support and encouragement has kept us going for 4 years and we are so excited to see them again in our new home!
