New Jersey's Chester Theatre Group in residence at the Black River Playhouse is presenting the American premiere of Alan Ayckbourn's comedy IMPROBABLE FICTION.
2005 play (the author's 69th) unfolds during a meeting of a small town writer's circle who have hit a collective roadblock. In a hilariously farcical second act, the stories that might have resulted from their unlikely collaboration are played out in front of the eyes of Arnold, the group's genial chairman and host.
The play is staged by Ayckbourn aficionado Michael T. Mooney, who has directed three other American premieres of the prolific playwright's work, including a 2007 production of THE NORMAN CONQUESTS trilogy. Mooney studied acting and directing with Ayckbourn from 2001 to 2005 in Scarborough, England. Ayckbourn, who tuned 70 on April 12th, celebrates his 50th year of writing this year, coinciding with The Playhouse's 50th anniversary.
Black River Playhouse has presented 15 productions of Ayckbourn's 72 plays. IMPROBABLE FICTION stars David Neal, Elizabeth Urcinoli, Bob Sackstein, Julianne DiPietro-Renshaw, Cody Dalton, Maria Brodeur, and Eric Rolland. The producer is Penny Hoadley.
Performances are Fridays & Saturdays, May 1 through 16 at 8pm and Sunday, May 17 at 2pm. For reservations and information call (908) 879-7304 or visit www.chestertheatregroup.org.
Performances take place at the Black River Playhouse, corner of Grove and Maple Streets in Chester, New Jersey.
