Glen Rock resident Mark Mason is featured in The Players Guild of Leonia production opening this weekend. "I seem to tend to gravitate toward the edgy (Ira in Stephen Fechter's The Woodsman) and the drier comedic (Wayne Seabury in Tom Griffin's Amateurs) shows when I go out for roles. Never having done Mamet before, I figured I'd appreciate trading the witty discourse and technical challenges of, say, summer rep for a chance to rise to the challenge of this script's peppery phrasing and beat-nuanced exchanges. Though I'm daunted by the minimalism of the set design, I trust Claudia's judgement.
And I derive an offbeat enjoyment from watching the squirming of people who keep saying they're looking for 'a real, open dialogue' about touchy subjects, who just aren't ready for how 'real' and 'open' a dialogue like this one can get." This explosive drama from Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Mamet tackles America's most controversial topic in a provocative tale about sex, guilt and bold accusations. Two male lawyers are called to defend a wealthy white client charged with the rape of a black woman, while their female associate betrays an agenda of her own. Directed by Claudia MacDermott.
