Fall 2015 Season of Family Programs Begins at the Morris Museum

The Morris Museum launches its fall 2015 season of family programs with a fun array of children's theatre, art workshops, and more. The line-up includes performances in the Bickford Theatre of 'Pinocchio and Other Tales' on November 5 and 'Berenstain Bears: Hospital Friends' on November 6. Also on the schedule are Tot Tours on October 9, October 23, and November 13; a pumpkin carving workshop on October 25; vacation day art workshops on November 5 and 6; and Family Festivals on October 24, November 14 and November 27-29.

Tot Tours
Fridays, October 9, October 23, and November 13, 10:00AM
Ages 2 to 5 (with a caregiver)

Children can engage with the arts and sciences through activities and gallery tours that focus on themes related to exhibitions.

Free with Museum admission. Advance registration required.

Spooky and Spectacular Family Festival
Saturday, October 24, 12:00-3:00PM

Come in costume (or not!) and enjoy:
• Pumpkin painting (pumpkins provided)
• A spooky scavenger hunt with prizes
• Parade in the Entrance Pavilion & costume contest at 1:30PM
• Guess the weight of the pumpkin and win a prize

Tickets: Free for Members; Non-members $7/child, $10/adult

Pumpkin Carving Workshop
Sunday, October 25, 2:00-4:00PM

Join us for an afternoon of family pumpkin carving and decorating. We provide pumpkins, tools, art materials, and light refreshments. Parents or guardian must accompany children. Advance online registration required.

Children's Theatre: Pinocchio and Other Tales

Bright Star Touring Theatre
Ages 3 to 9

The hilarious national children's theatre company will have you laughing in the aisles with this re-telling of the stories of Pinocchio and Robin Hood. Lots of audience interaction and plenty of puns bring these literary classics to life in an unforgettable fashion.

Vacation Day Art Workshop
Thursday, November 5, 12:00-2:00PM

Make a colorful, leafy centerpiece for your table. Easy and fun to make - each one an individual work of art!

Children's Theatre: Berenstain Bears: Hospital Friends

Ages 3 to 9

Adapted from the brand new book by Michael Berenstain, go to the doctor with Brother Bear, Sister Bear, Mama and Papa Bear. Sister Bear does not want to see the doctor and Brother Bear can never remember to wash his hands. They all learn lessons about family and good health.

Vacation Day Art Workshop

Lenape Family Day Family Festival
Saturday, November 14, 11:00AM-4:00PM

Long before New Jersey was known for its malls and highways, the state was inhabited by the Lenape Indians. John Kraft, the creator and director of Lenape Lifeways, will give presentations that focus on the culture of the Lenape Indians. Mr. Kraft uses authentic and recreated objects to teach about Lenape masks, clothing, musical instruments, and tools. Other activities include designing your own satchel, Indian corn weaving, a self-guided scavenger hunt, and interactive storytelling of Native American legends.

Rock and Mineral Weekend
Friday, November 27, 12:00-2:00PM

Sunday, November 29, 12:00-5:00PM

Enjoy a rockin' weekend at the Morris Museum. Visit the mineral, gem, and fossil displays throughout the Museum. Members of the Morris Museum Mineralogical Society will be on hand to identify your mystery rocks and minerals. Families will be able to examine fossils, learn about fluorescent minerals, and listen to engaging presentations on various topics about geology and the Earth. Other activities include a sand box scavenger hunt and mineral magic show.
