Students from Fairleigh Dickinson University's Visual and Performing Arts Department will be participating in the upcoming production, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, October 21-October 30 under the direction of Carole Healey.
Something familiar, something peculiar, something for everyone: a comedy tonight! One of Broadway's greatest farces, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a fast-paced, witty and irreverent show following a Roman slave who attempts to gain his freedom by helping his master win the girl next door. But the road to romance is never easy, as our hero dodges multiple surprises, wild chases, mistaken identities, slamming doors and zany characters, all for freedom and love!
With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum may be a show based on 2000-year-old play, but it is a nonstop laughfest known by many as a high point in the history of Broadway musical comedy.
The show features 21 Fairleigh Dickinson University student performers ranging from Freshman to Seniors. The production will take place in the Dreyfuss Theater located on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University College at Florham. The opening performance will take place on October 21 at 8:00 p.m.
