World-renowned classical pianist Lillie Gardner is devoting her 2017-2018 concert season to Amy Beach, who was born 150 years ago, in 1867. Partnering with Aleathea's Restaurant and The Bedford Inn, East Lynne Theater Company is proud to bring Dr. Gardner to Cape May for a one-night-only performance of "An Evening with Amy Beach." This exceptional musical event is the first of a two-part series, "Musical Soirées at the Hotels," and will be on Monday, June 4 at Aleathea's Restaurant at The Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean Street.
Amy Beach (1867 - 1944) is a perfect fit for ELTC's 2018 theme: "Women Reaching for the Sun, the Moon, and the Stars." Beach was the first female composer to have her work performed by a symphony orchestra and was the first American composer to achieve success without the benefit of European study. With its mission of presenting the American experience through its classic stage productions, ELTC is proud to celebrate the music of this monumental and pivotal figure in America's musical heritage.
Pianist and chamber musician Lillie Gardner of St. Paul, Minnesota, received her Bachelor of Music degrees from New York University and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of Connecticut. She has performed throughout the world in such venues as Steinway Hall, Teatro de Casa Italiana and Tenri Cultural Institute of New York. Dr. Gardner makes her Cape May debut with "An Evening with Amy Beach."
On hand for the June 4 performance will be WWFM, The Classical Network, to record "An Evening with Amy Beach" for a future broadcast on David Osenberg's program, "Celebrating Our Musical Community."
Those attending the performance are invited to stay afterwards for a reception with Dr. Gardner, in which Aleathea's will be serving hors d'oeuvres and guests may purchase drinks at the bar.
Doors open for seating at 7:30PM. Admission is $27.00 and, as always, ages 12 and under are free. A discount of $2.00 is offered to all MAC members and Friends of the Cape May Music Festival. For more information and reservations, visit ELTC's web site, eastlynnetheater.org, e-mail eastlynneco@aol.com, or phone 609-884-5898. Tickets may be purchased directly through the web site by going to the page dedicated to "An Evening with Amy Beach."
ELTC's next "Musical Soirées at the Hotels" will be on Sunday, August 12 at 8:00PM at The Chalfonte, with Patricia Durante singing the iconic songs from World War II in "We'll Meet Again." Currently, on ELTC's mainstage, it's the final week of "A Year in the Trenches" about World War I.
