The Stages Festival, now in its 15th season, is a month-long, state-wide celebration of theater with discounted and/or free tickets to all events. The organization responsible for this much anticipated program is the New Jersey Theatre Alliance: the statewide consortium of professional theaters in the Garden State, of which East Lynne Theater Company is a proud member.
On Sunday, March 11 at 5p.m., ELTC is proud to bring Pushcart Players' A CUENTOS DE ARBOL or "Tree Tales," to The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, admission-free. It is a bi-lingual musical, written and orchestrated by Larry Hochman who won a Tony for Best Orchestrations for THE BOOK OF MORMON (co-orchestrated with Stephen Oremus), drawn from Spanish and Latin American folklore designed to bring Spanish to life. The centerpiece of all the stories is a tree (Un Arbol) that has sheltered many characters throughout the years, and the tree's caretaker, Arbolita, shares four of these stories with Tomas, a storyteller.
On Tuesday, March 13 at 1p.m. is 100 YEARS OF WILDWOOD at Glenwood Avenue Elementary School (2900 New York Ave., corner of Glenwood and New York Avenues in Wildwood.) In 1912, Wildwood became a city, and to help celebrate this, ELTC teaching artists Gayle Stahlhuth and Grace Wright will spend eight days, with three fifth-grade classes, helping students to research, write and rehearse scenes about Wildwood.
There will also be an acting class taught by Tom Byrn The First Presbyterian Church, on Friday, March 23 from 6:30p.m.- 9:30p.m. for ages 16 on up. Tom was in ELTC's recent production of HE AND SHE receiving an excellent review in The Wall Street Journal, and was one of the teachers for ELTC's Student Summer Workshop. He has worked with many Philadelphia area theater companies, and was a member of the Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble for 11 years. His focus for the class will be improvisation and the basics of scene work, and no experience is necessary, but reservations are recommended.
