Mark Edward Lang and Alison J. Murphy, who have performed extensively with East Lynne Theater Company, as well as with theaters in New York and across the country, return to the Avalon Free Public Library with their popular acting class "Scenes and Monologues." Many have enjoyed their classes on Shakespeare that they presented at the library for the past two years, and now Mark and Alison are offering a look at modern scripts. The classes are free and for three sessions only, all on Tuesdays: August 3, 10, and 17 from 6:30p.m.-8:30p.m.

"Scenes and Monologues" is an introductory class for students (teens and older) and adults with an interest in acting and theater at all levels of experience. The instructors will select scenes and discuss the process of acting, including text analysis, researching the play, developing a character, and stage technique. Improv theater games are used as a warm-up to develop an ensemble feeling among students, remove blocks, and sharpen communication skills. Beginning with a sit-down reading, each scene or monologue will be discussed, blocked and rehearsed.

The library is located at 235 32 Street and Ocean Drive in Avalon. Come dressed comfortably to move. Class size is limited, so reservations are requested. Participants are encourages to attend as many evenings as possible. For more information or to register contact the library at 967-7155.

Meanwhile, patrons have the opportunity to see Alison on stage in ELTC's comic farce about a banana republic, "The Dictator," that runs through September 4 at The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May, where the company is in residence. To make reservations, call 884-5898 or go to www.eastlynnetheater.org.
