Eagle Theatre will open their biggest blockbuster to date on January 25th, featuring the largest company and creative team ever assembled at the regional theatre.
Producing Artistic Director, Ted Wioncek III, shares "Ragtime is more than unforgettable melodies, epic production value, and an all-star cast. It is the musical that reminds you why you love musicals. This beautiful story is so uplifting, we find ourselves leaving the theatre each night with a newfound appreciation for our lives, our freedom, and our country."
Based on the novel by E. L. Doctorow, this triumphant must-see musical masterpiece tells the story of three groups in the United States in the early 20th century: African Americans, represented by Coalhouse Walker Jr., a Harlem musician; upper-class suburbanites, represented by Mother, the matriarch of a white upper-class family in New Rochelle, New York; and Eastern European immigrants, represented by Tateh, a Jewish immigrant from Latvia.
Wioncek add, "I am certain patrons will be return multiple times throughout the run. The visceral energy of the performances is so palpable and infectious... you have to come back to share it with those you love. If you've yet to visit the Eagle Theatre, get your tickets now, before it is too late!"
The musical also features a host of historical figures, including; Harry Houdini, Evelyn Nesbit, Booker T. Washington, J. P. Morgan, Henry Ford, Stanford White, Harry Kendall Thaw, Admiral Peary, Matthew Henson, and Emma Goldman.
Ragtime opened on Broadway on January 18, 1998, leading the 1998 Tony Awards with thirteen Tony Award nominations, left winning 4 Tony Awards; Best Featured Actress (Audra McDonald), Original Score, Book, and Orchestrations.
The original production was staged with over 50 actors. However, Eagle Theatre's newly reimagined version features a star-studded cast of 19, featuring performers from California, Mississippi, New York, Philadelphia, and New Jersey.
Wioncek concludes, "Ragtime packs a level of grandeur that you may not expect to find in an intimate professional regional theatre setting. However, we pride ourselves in bringing Broadway to your backyard. Why watch theatre when you can experience it? See every moment, hear every lyric, and sit anywhere you'd like... they're all the best seat in the house!"
