The Eagle Theatre, located at 208 Vine Street in Hammonton, N.J., recently expanded with the purchase of a 5,000 square foot warehouse. Titled "The Workshop," the building is a versatile structure that includes a fully stocked shop for scenic design and construction, alternative rehearsal space and executive offices.
"We expected to grow, but I think the pace has surprised even the most optimistic members of our team," said Co-Artistic Director Ed Corsi. "The theatre needed to expand to keep this momentum."
Since re-opening in 2009, the Eagle Theatre has gone from renting out the stage to community theatre troupes to producing professional in-house productions. The Workshop represents the next phase in the development of the organization.
Located in Downtown Hammonton just a few blocks from the Eagle Theatre, The Workshop will allow scenic artists to construct sets for upcoming productions that could then be transported to the theatre. This would allow for additional programming to utilize the theatre.
Moreover, the building includes offices for recently added full-time staff. Most excitingly, however, is the potential for it to become a second performing arts venue.
"The Workshop is the ideal location for the Eagle Theatre's Second Stage. It will allow our patrons to experience an alternative yet equally vital side to live theatre." said Co-Artistic Director Ted Wioncek III.
