Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, professional theatre in residence at Oakes Center in Summit, is producing the New Jersey Premiere of Every Brilliant Thing, written by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe. This seriocomedy debuted in London in 2013, and then moved to the Barrow Street Theatre in New York City in 2014. Every Brilliant Thing runs September 21 - October 8, 2017.

In this intimate and interactive performance, a man tells how he tries to persuade his mother that life is worth living from his childhood through his adulthood as she struggles with depression. He decides to create a list of everything beautiful he can think of, which ultimately reaches one million items. During the course of the show, to which only fifty seats are available for each performance, the man recruits audience members to read the list and help him tell his story. Every Brilliant Thing is a play about depression and the lengths we go to for those we love. When it appeared in Off-Broadway, Roma Torre of NY1 News called it "as profound a work as you're ever likely to experience on a New York stage."

The production is directed by Laura Ekstrand (Livingston) and features Dreamcatcher ensemble member Clark Carmichael (Montclair). Playwright Duncan Macmillan's other plays have been produced at The Royal Court Theatre and the National Theatre in London as well as the Studio Theatre in Washington, DC, among many others. Co-author Jonny Donahoe is an actor, comedian and writer, and was nominated for a Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk Award for his performance in Every Brilliant Thing.
