Dreamcatcher Rep to Present THE OTHER PLACE, MOTHERHOOD OUT LOUD, & More in 2013-14 Season

Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre is announcing its nineteenth season, and its second year at The Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit. This professional company will bring three New Jersey premieres to the stage in addition to improvisational comedy, new play readings, a holiday variety show and many programs for seniors and students. As always, the Dreamcatcher Resident Acting Company and their guests will tell stories that reflect our shared experience of being human with heart and humor

Dreamcatcher's fall mainstage production is the New Jersey premiere of The Other Place, a drama by Sharr White that appeared on Broadway last season starring the Tony-nominated Laurie Metcalf. This haunting play begins just as Juliana Smithton's research leads to a potential breakthrough, and her life takes a disorienting turn. As Juliana traces her memories and relationships back in time, mysteries pile up until the truth is revealed one devastating night. The Other Place will open on October 3 and will play until October 20.

On Saturday, November 2, Dreamcatcher's improv comedy group Multiple Personality Disorder will bring its own brand of silliness and spontaneity to life for the first of two evenings during the season. The second MPD show will be Saturday, March 22.

Premiering from Friday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24 is How to be Old: A Beginner's Guide, an adaptation of Jan Slepian's latest book of essays on growing older with humor and grace. This staged reading is the follow-up to Astonishment, which is still touring throughout the state.

On December 6 and 7, Dreamcatcher will present A Very Special (Holiday) Special, a unique and affectionate send-up of traditional television holiday variety shows. This Very Special Special will include holiday songs, comic sketches and improv, and lots of good old-fashioned fun.

Dreamcatcher will present its second mainstage production in February, the New Jersey premiere of Kate Fodor's hit Rx, which recently played Off-Broadway at Primary Stages. In this comedy, Meena is desperately unhappy at her job, so she decides to participate in a drug trial for a new medication designed to increase job satisfaction. Will the new drug provide a shortcut to happiness? Or will falling in love threaten to derail her journey to personal fulfillment? Rx plays February 13 through March 2.

The third mainstage production of the season will be the New Jersey Premiere of Motherhood Out Loud, which played at Primary Stages in 2011. This compilation of pieces about motherhood features the writing of Theresa Rebeck, Lisa Loomer, Beth Henley and many others. Utterly unpredictable, Motherhood Out Loud shatters traditional notions about parenthood, unveils its inherent comedy and celebrates the deeply personal truths that span and unite generations. Motherhood Out Loudruns from April 24 through May 11.

In the spring, two "Meet the Artist" free new play readings will be held on May 21 and 28, thought-provoking experiences which include the opportunity for audience discussion with the writer, director and actors after the performance.

After its month-long Summer Theatre Conservatory for students aged 10-17, Dreamcatcher will present its annual Dreamcatcher Junior production on Friday, August 1, an original family show that always draws on the creativity of its young actors to shape the piece. Each year, the youth company creates a one-of-a-kind piece that has ranged from fairy tale quest to Shakespeare adaptation to musical revue.

Throughout the year, Dreamcatcher offers internships for high school and college students, classes for teens and adults, and many volunteer opportunities. In addition, the theatre provides a menu of outreach programs for students and seniors that travel to other venues. All of Dreamcatcher's activities center on the collaborative nature of theatre and creating a comfortable environment for artists and audiences of all ages to explore and grow together. The company's work is supported by grants from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, and several other corporate and individual donors that believe in the power of the arts to bring people together and promote understanding between them.

Season passes may be purchased that provide substantial discounts to all events, and special rates for groups are also available.
