Gino DiIorio's Dead Ringer gets its world premiere tonight at NJ Rep Theater. The play, a family drama set on the Texas range in 1885, follows Tyrus Cole, an old, tempermental horse trainer who lives on a ranch with his invalid sister, Mary. Because he is unable to watch her during the day, Mary is confined to a root cellar. Dwight Foley's arrival, as a young stranger seeking help with his horse, upsets the balance between Cole and Mary. What unfolds is a web of shady business and secrets. The show opens officially on Saturday, October 17 and runs through November 15.
Dead Ringer is directed by NJ Rep's artistic director, Suzanne Barabas. The cast features NJ Rep vets Michael Irvin Pollard and Natalie Wilder. They are joined by Christian Pedersen in his NJ Rep mainstage debut.
Dead Ringer originally premiered as The Hard Way in NJ Rep's annual Theatre Brut Festival of Short Plays in 2004. This festival version was expanded into a full length play that won the 2005 BBC International Playwriting Contest and was broadcast over BBC Radio.
