Hey, hey, it's The Monkees! 45 years after their groundbreaking show and hit singles took televisions and record players by storm, Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork are proud to announce a new tour to dazzle five decades' worth of fans. An Evening with The Monkees - The 45th Anniversary Tour, the first live performances by the band in a full decade, launches on June 3rd and rolls into Englewood, New Jersey on Wednesday September 10th 2011.
"I'm looking forward to getting back together with my old buddies for some good ol' rock and roll."
"We need to share this music once again as people want to hear music from times that made them happy," said Davy Jones. "The records are being played all the time. And, the fans are still there... so, we're going to do it." Micky Dolenz added, "I'm looking forward to getting back together with my old buddies for some good ol' rock and roll." Peter Tork concludes, "Each one of the tours we do is more fun than the one before."
Audiences will get a multimedia experience celebrating the band's legacy. Jones, Dolenz and Tork will appear to perform their mega-hits including "I'm a Believer,""Last Train to Clarksville," "Daydream Believer," "Pleasant Valley Sunday," "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" and, for the first time onstage, selections from their cult classic movie, Head. Additionally, songs and videos will be broadcast before and after the show.
Formed in Los Angeles in 1966, The Monkees debuted on television and with a #1 single. The show won two Emmy Awards, and they scored a dozen Billboard Top 40 hits-outselling both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones in 1967. They are the only artists ever to have four #1 albums in the same year; had Top 10 hits in 25+ countries; and had top-grossing tours in 1967 and 1986. Re-broadcasts of The Monkees re-ignited "Monkeemania" in the 1980s. In the 1990s and 2000s, members reformed for new albums, tours and TV specials.
