After a fire in January killed two members of the Coleman family in Leonia, and destroyed their home completely, fellow Leonians Mike Moat and Mark Watson knew they had to help. Three generations of Colemans had lived in that house for decades and they had known them all.

Moat and Watson are volunteers in the Players Guild of Leonia, the local community-theatre group where families like the Colemans have been attending and performing in plays for almost one hundred years. They brought the idea of a benefit fundraiser to Players Guild President Beth Parrillo, who was also a classmate of Harriet Coleman. They agreed to hold that benefit at the historic Drill Hall Theatre (130 Grand Avenue, Leonia, NJ 07605) on Sunday, March 2, from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. There will be a variety show of bands, singers, dancers, and other entertainment all day long.

Mark Watson says, "Mike and I thought the Drill Hall would be the perfect place to remember our friends who've passed on and help raise money for the survivors to rebuild. We want folks to drop in whenever they can during the day, and spend a few minutes or a few hours with us."

Performers will include the Jack Strobel Blues Band, and Taxi (classic R&B) among other professional acts, along with dancers, singers, and other performances by members of the Players Guild with a variety of styles.

100% of donations received during the day will go directly to the Coleman family to help them rebuild. Cash donations and checks will be accepted during the event, and checks to support the fund may be sent by mail. Checks should be made payable to: The Players Guild of Leonia - Coleman Fund.
