A diverse group of talented children will pay tribute to mom's during a pre-mother's day program entitled "Mother's Day Masquerade"; on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Hamilton Stage of the Performing Arts Fazioli Room. The program will feature live music, singing, dancing, and poetry; as well as, stand-up comedy, all in homage of mother's day.
Thanks to the collaboration between Just Be You Performing Arts; the event's Production Company, and Beauty in Spirit, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women and mothers, a group of primarily single-mothers are being given tickets to attend the program, by way of generous sponsors. The mission of the program is to create a fun, inspiring, relaxing and entertaining evening for the mothers and their guests.
"Beauty in Spirit, Inc. believes in the mission of Just Be You Performing Arts. Our organization is in total support of the 'Mother's day Masquerade' production. We sponsored 23 women to attend the event, because we believe in making positive deposits in the lives of women. We believe that moms wear many hats. Especially single mothers. This event has allowed Beauty in Spirit, Inc. to contribute to the arts; and to support Just Be You Performing Arts, and the work they continue to do with young performers," said Minister Zakiyyah Green, founder/executive director of Beauty in Spirit, Inc.
The show's line-up is a variety of artistic expressions; that will be performed by young aspiring artists, ranging in ages 7 to 18 year's old. Mahogany Reynolds-Clarke, the founder and executive director of Just Be You Performing Arts created the show's concept, with the objective of giving emerging talent an opportunity to perform at a major venue.
"As an instructor in the arts, my mantra is 'learn then demonstrate'. It's so important for young artists to perform on a professional level in order to build a solid career foundation. This event is filled with music, poetry, dance, and song. The children will perform pieces that pay tribute to the love and devotion of a mother. I believe it's a wonderful way to kick off the week of mother's day," said Reynolds-Clarke, who is also the creator and producer of the popular stand-up comedy show "Cracking Up In Rahway".
Headlining the event on May 7 is veteran "Cracking Up In Rahway" stand-up comic, Sarah Showfety; who coins herself as the "funniest mom in New Jersey". Showfety will be joined by emerging comedian, Vernita Bostick, who plans to also add laughter to the program. With all jokes aside, the program also includes a self-defense demonstration, compliments of Sovereign Martial Arts of Rahway, New Jersey; a co-sponsor of the event.
"Sovereign Martial Arts is very excited to participate and team up with Just Be You Performing Arts. We feel very passionate about empowering women; and families to become the best they can be. We are going to demonstrate the importance of fitness and self-protection. To have our 'I Can, I Will and Not Today' attitude when faced with danger. The 'Mother's Day Masquerade' production is the perfect platform for our mission. Gathering ladies together in a well-informed, influential, inspirational setting is the perfect setting," said Jana DiCervo, Instructor/Owner.
The event's key sponsor, Vicel Guzman of JAFRA Cosmetics, will provide complimentary beauty treatments and skin-care tips for the moms; as well as, donating an array of giveaways. This marks the third year of Guzman's on-going sponsorship of Just Be You Performing Arts productions. Along with Reynolds-Clarke, she helped organize the event, and will supply each mom with a goodie bag.
"It's always good to get women together; in celebrating, honoring and encouraging one another, especially moms. This event is good for moms, because it has all that a busy mom needs, to enjoy a fun and inspirational evening," said Guzman.
