Centenary Stage Company's 2016 - 17 Fringe Festival closes with Little Matchstick Factory's The Other Mozart November 17 through 20 in the Lackland Performing Arts Center.

Winner of 2015 New York Innovative Theatre Awards for Outstanding Solo Performance (Sylvia Milo) and Outstanding Original Music (Nathan Davis and Phyllis Chen), The Other Mozart is the true, forgotten story of Nannerl Mozart, the sister of Amadeus - a prodigy, keyboard virtuoso and composer, who performed throughout Europe with her brother, to equal acclaim, but her work and her story faded away, lost to history. Created by Sylvia Milo and performed at CSC by Samantha Hoefer, the monodrama is set in a stunning 18-foot dress (designed by Magdalena Dabrowska from the National Theater of Poland). Directed by Isaac Byrne, THE OTHER MOZART is based on facts, stories and lines pulled directly from the Mozart family's humorous and heartbreaking letters.

Along with music composed by her famous brother and Marianna Martines (a female composer who inspired Nannerl), original music was written for the play by Nathan Davis and Phyllis Chen - featured composers of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, BAM and the International Contemporary Ensemble. Period style movement directed by Janice Orlandi creates a world of opulence and elegance through articulate delicacy of expressive balletic gestures, reverent court bows, and fan language. With the opulent beauty of the dress and hair design, the sweet smell of perfume, and the clouds of dusting powder rising from the stage, the performance creates a multi-sensual experience and transports the audience into a world of outsized beauty and delight -- but also of overwhelming restrictions and prejudice.

The Other Mozart had a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run at HERE in NYC in 2014 and has returned to NYC every year since (also presented by All for One Festival at the Cherry Lane Theater). The play was presented in Austria, in Salzburg, at the invitation of the Mozarteum Foundation - at the Mozart Wohnhaus (inside the Mozart family apartment) - and by the Mozarteum University. In Germany at the Pasinger Fabrik in Munich, and in Estonia, Tyrol and in Toronto, Canada. The play has toured extensively in the US in theatres and at classical music festivals (in San Diego, Charleston, New Orleans, in Alabama, Texas, Florida, New Mexico, California and Connecticut among others). In September 2015 the play was presented at St. James Theater in London to critical acclaim.
