The TYRO Theatre Programs provide an introduction to theatre skills and performance in a two week session from 9:30am-12:00 noon for 6-8 year olds and 1:00pm-3:30pm for 9-11 year olds beginning July 10 - July 21. "I saw so much growth in Christine this summer as a result of the wonderful handling given by all of you!" exclaims one TYRO parent. The TYRO Theatre Programs are led by CSC Education Director, Maria Brodeur, an actress and arts educator with experience in children's theatre. Brodeur holds a BA in Theatre & Education from Rutgers University. The cost of the TYRO Theatre Programs is $200 per student and the registration deadline is June 24.
The Young Performers Workshop, an acclaimed professional musical theatre training program for young people ages 8 - 18, will hold its Summer Intensive five-week program beginning July 10 - August 13, . Hailed "a state treasure" by the Star Ledger, the YPW Summer Intensive offers theater arts training in acting, voice, and dance, emphasizing the production process along with a variety of electives. The Young Performers Summer Intensive is led by Broadway and television veteran, Michael Blevins and is staffed by theatre professionals. The YPW Summer Intensive Program runs Monday - Saturday, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. Extended evening hours are offered to students by special invitation of the program director. The YPW Summer Intensive session will culminate in full-length musical productions and One-Act plays performed for the public in a 10-day Summer Festival of Shows. The cost of the summer intensive program is $995 for the first student and $895 for the second student. Interviews for the YPW Summer Intensive are scheduled for Saturday, June 3 and Sunday, June 4. No prior experience is required, but all new applicants must complete an interview process to be admitted. Registration deadline is June 27.
TYRO and YPW are the educational arm of the not-for-profit Centenary Stage Company, a professional Equity theatre in residence at Centenary University under the leadership of Artistic Director, Carl Wallnau.
