It's Women's History Month! Celebrate it by watching women write history! New Jersey Women Continue to Make History.
March is National Women's History Month and we're is celebrating New Jersey women writers by introducing a new feature to our New Jersey Women Playwrights Project program. We've partnered up with Speranza Theater Company, a women's theatre based in Jersey City, to bring the work of these professional women playwrights to Hudson County at the Jersey City Theatre Center!
The plays developed by our NJWPP writers have gone on to national acclaim and have had readings and productions all over the country. We've got two great examples of this in Chisa Hutchinson and Yasmine Rana. Chisa, who was the 2015 Lanford Wilson Award-winner, developed THE WEDDING GIFT as a NJ Women Playwrights Project participant and that play was selected to be part of this year's prestigious Contemporary American Theatre Festival in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. And Yasmine, who won a 2015 Playwriting Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, is a finalist for this year's Francesca Primus Prize for THE WARZONE IS MY BED, a play she also developed as part of the NJ Women Playwrights Project at Writers Theatre.
Our audiences got to see these plays before anyone else and were a vital part of their development, something we and our playwrights are incredibly grateful for! So we invite you to come join us as we share with Jersey City audiences the wonderful work these women are creating.

One More New Plays New Jersey Performance Left
Our New Plays New Jersey series at the Bickford Theatre in Morristown, NJ is winding down. We've seen wonderful comedies from Lia Romeo (who is also featured in our New Jersey Women Playwrights Project this month!) and Karen JP Howes and, on Thursday, we got to see John Muir and Teddy Roosevelt talk and wrestle around a Yosemite campfire in Ben Clawson's KING OF THE MOUNTAINS.
There's still one performance left - this Sunday at 6 PM, we will be seeing Maryanne Melloan Woods' play, HOME COURT. HOME COURT is so new the ink will barely have dried on the page before the actors present it to you, so come see Maryanne's latest work and help us close out a fantastic reading series!
We've also just launced our new website at www.wtnj.org so be sure to stop by often and find out about upcoming performances and all the work we're doing!
