Cape May Stage to Present BLITHE SPIRIT, 8/6-9/16

Cape May Stage, Cape May's premier Equity theatre company, brings you a hauntingly hilarious good time with Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit. Filled with the eccentric characters and witty dialogue known as Coward's trademark, this clever comedy, opening August 6 and running through September 19 at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse, will have you dying for more.

When novelist Charles Condomine hosts a séance as research for his next novel, he gets a little more than he bargained for. Initially skeptical and dismissive, Charles soon learns the error of his ways as the eccentric medium he hires turns out to be far more than the 'quack' she seems. Now he is stuck in history's strangest love triangle as his dead wife's ghost does her best to drive away his current (living) wife. Mischief ensues as she haunts the house and their marriage in a misguided attempt to win back her husband's love. A hysterical ghost story for the ages, Blithe Spirit will have you laughing so hard that you'll feel as if your own demons have been exorcised as well!

The "spirit" of the show is brought to life by an impressively funny cast. Julian Elfer is caught between two women as Charles (Twelfth Night, World of Fuh), while Charlotte Munson (Master Class, Romeo & Juliet) and Michelle Eugene (The Detour, God of Carnage) embody Wives #1 and #2 respectively. Jennifer Harmon (Amy's View, Blithe Spirit) occupies the role of the wacky psychic and former Cape May Stage acting intern Iraisa Ann Reilly (Almost Love) is there to bear witness to it all as the maid. Rounding out the séance are Dr. and Mrs. Bradman, played by Thomas Grube (Noir, The Word for Snow) and Isabella Knight (Nude with Violin).

A talented production team joins the cast including Producing Artistic Director Roy Steinberg (Moon Over Buffalo, The Santaland Diaries) as director, Scenic Designer Spencer Potter, Costume Designer Michele Sinacore, Lighting Designer Cyrus Newitt, and Production Stage Manager Casey Oakes.

Blithe Spirit will run from Wednesday, August 6 to Friday, September 19 at the Robert Shackleton Playhouse located on the corner of Bank and Lafayette Streets in downtown Cape May. Performances are Tuesday through Sunday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults, $30 seniors (62+) and $15 students. The official opening night will be Thursday, August 7. A special half-price senior night will take place Sunday, September 14 and there will be a special 'pay-what-you-wish' performance on Tuesday, September 2.
