Acclaimed stage and screen actor, Ben Hammer, will pay Cape May Stage Audiences a welcome visit in the award-winning Visiting Mr. Green by popular playwright Jeff Baron. Broadway veteran Hammer will be joined by up-and-comer Peter Sabri with both actors reprising their roles as Mr. Green and Ross, respectively. Consistently earning rave notices for their outstanding work on New York and regional theater stages, their performances have been called "rich and grounded" and "mesmerizing", respectively. This new production directed by Artistic Director, Roy Steinberg promises to be another first-rate presentation, continuing the trend this summer of sell-out shows at The Robert Shackleton Playhouse.

What starts out as an "Odd Couple" style-comedy, evolves into a poignant story filled with humor and pathos. When an elderly Jewish dry cleaner walks into the path of an oncoming yuppie's car, a judge with a sense of humor requires the young man to pay a series of visits to his victim. Two worlds literally collide as these seemingly different men discover friendship in the most unexpected way, and in the process learn the dangers of intolerance and isolation. Visiting Mr. Green has earned international recognition, having been translated into 23 different languages and won numerous awards world-wide. As playwright Jeff Baron describes the characters' journeys, "They end up playing out a lot of unfinished business each has with his own family. They've both been keeping a lot inside, and in the course of the visits, it all explodes." Baron will make an appearance on September 12 for a post-show discussion with the cast. Audiences will empathize with this emotionally engaging play and love every minute they spend Visiting Mr. Green!
