Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could
Sunday, March 3 at 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm

Families can sing along to the fun music of Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could, coming to Mayo Performing Arts Center on Sunday, March 3 at 1:30 pm and 4:30 pm. Tickets are $12-15.

Please note that the 4:30 pm is a "relaxed performance" with modified sound and lights in which people can move around during the performance, and so that children with special needs may share in these family experiences. Relaxed performances are supported by the George A. Ohl, Jr. Trust

After a decade-long career with RCA Records jam band From Good Homes recording and touring with acts from the Dave Matthews Band to Bob Dylan and Bob Weir's Ratdog, Brady Rymer ventured into family music as he started his own family, releasing Good Morning, Gus in 2000. Since then, he has released nine CDs, including 2017's GRAMMY-nominated Press Play, 2014's GRAMMY-nominated Just Say Hi! and the 2008 GRAMMY-nominated Here Comes Brady Rymer and the Little Band That Could.

Rymer's rootsy, accordion-laced pop and rock music regularly wins critical acclaim and national awards including three Children's GRAMMY nominations as well as numerous Parent's Choice Gold and NAPPA (National Parenting Publications) Gold Awards, and has garnered him a growing fan base of enthusiastic families. Together with his longtime bandmates in the Little Band That Could -- outstanding players all, with backgrounds from Americana to Zydeco -- he performs rockin' live music for kids and families across the country at Performing Arts Centers, concert halls, clubs, outdoor festivals, schools and libraries.

Brady's 2011 CD Love Me For Who I Am was inspired by his experience performing for and working with kids with Autism, Asperger's Syndrome and related disorders, and celebrates kids of all abilities. He regularly performs sensory-friendly shows for audiences including children with special needs.

Brady serves on the Education Board of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the region's musical heritage.

When he's not playing with his own band, Brady plays bass guitar with the Laurie Berkner Band; he also performs a few select shows a year with his 'grown-up' band From Good Homes. He lives on the North Fork of Long Island with his wife, Bridget, and two children Gus and Daisy.

Currents by Mayumana
Saturday, March 2 at 8 pm

Featuring amazing percussion and music, Currents by Mayumana takes the stage on Saturday, March 2 at Mayo Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $29-$69.

"Currents" is inspired by the historical Battle of Currents between Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla in their quest for finding energy sources for the world. On stage, we accompany a journey between two troops, each representing a different view of the essence of light and electricity and each inspired by a different esthetic and artistic approach, all of which are presented as a dialogue, through unique sounds, lights, and visual effects. The show combines a variety of elements: specially made musical instruments, massive video art projections and eleven skilled performers in constant movement, playing on different instruments and musically juggling between different sounds.

The Israeli-based Mayumana was founded in 1996 by Eylon Nuphar and Boaz Bermanm driven by their deep love for percussion and music. From around the world, Berman and Nuphar gathered a small group of gifted performers, each with diverse talents and contrasting backgrounds. Sparked by their shared passion for rhythm and coordination, and fueled by their unique sense of humor and mischief, their group dynamic on stage was inexhaustible and infectious. Enriched by working with a multicultural cast, they all inspired each other to fulfill the individual's prowess in his/her area of expertise, while developing in all players the versatility to master other skills. This befits the name Mayumana, which comes from the Hebrew word for skill - Meyumanut.

The power of each Mayumana creation comes from the strong emphasis placed on the unity and synchronization of the group as a whole. At the same time, the talent and beauty of the individual performer is highlighted and celebrated. Mayumana's playfulness extends beyond the stage, reaching out to engage in direct interactions with its audiences of all ages and cultures. Sixteen years later with performers from more than 20 different nationalities, Mayumana has become one of Israel's leading cultural exports. It has entertained millions of people around the world with its international touring cast, as well as in its home theatre, The Mayumana House, which is located at the old harbor of Jaffa.
