Sixteen years ago on January 25, the first ever scheduled preview of the musical RENT was replaced with a memorial performance when writer Jonathon Larson suddenly passed away. Now, with only two weekends left in their run of RENT, Collaborative Stage Productions continues to pay homage with their acclaimed production of the musical at the Eagle Theatre, located at 208 Vine Street in Hammonton, NJ.
Jonathon Larson’s RENT, winner of four Tony Awards and one of the longest running shows on Broadway, tells the story of the day-to-day lives of characters struggling to make the most of the time they have, and also compassionately highlights the issues facing LGBT individuals, especially those battling AIDS. Appropriately, a portion of the proceeds from RENT will benefit the South Jersey AIDS Alliance, South Jersey’s leader in the fight against AIDS. Including such well-known songs as Seasons of Love, La Vie Boheme, and Tango: Maureen, RENT has become a well-known cultural phenomenon.
This production of RENT features national recording artist Brian Bortnick reprising his role as Roger Davis A Philadelphia born and raised musician and a graduate of the University of the Arts, Bortnick has sold over 50,000 CD's with his, OCTANE. The band performed and toured with Disturbed, Fuel, Three Doors Down, and Staind. Recently, Brian toured with American Idol Season 6 finalist Chris Sligh. Regional audiences may recall seeing Bortnick in the title role of The Who’s Tommy, produced by Stage Left Productions at the Eagle Theatre in June of 2011.
