Carsie Blanton with Devon Sproule is coming to the Broadway Theatre of Pitman on Wednesday, July 22 at 8:00 pm. Tickets are $15. These are two of the best in the business!
Carsie is a young singer-songwriter who grew up in rural Virginia and landed in Philadelphia in Fall 2006. Since then, her soulful, playful, intelligent music has prompted WXPN's Gene Shay to call her "One of the best singer-songwriters in the business."
In her brief time as a performing songwriter, Carsie has shared the stage with nationally hailed acts Amos Lee, Nellie McKay, John Oates, and Leone Redbone. In Spring and Fall 2008, Carsie toured with Loudon Wainwright, III and twice with Blue Note recording artists The Wood Brothers.
Devon Sproule's last record, 2007's Keep Your Silver Shined, was released on Brooklyn-based City Salvage Records and proved an indie hit in the US, UK, Ireland and Europe. The 26-year-old toured with Woodstock legend Richie Havens, Lambchop frontman Kurt Wagner, fellow-Virginian Mary Chapin Carpenter and supported back-to-back nights in London with Lucinda Williams.
Sproule won the Kerrville Folk Festival Newfolk Contest in 2008. "She performs with a sweet, round diction that shines through even her most ornate imagery and rambunctious melodies." (New Yorker) According to Rolling Stone, "her vocal and lyrical beauty is unmatched."
Devon Sproule's new CD, Don't Hurry for Heaven, produced by her husband and fellow musician, Paul Curreri, is due out in the fall of 2009.
