Local teen music artist Jules Brave who is an allergy sufferer herself is confirmed to perform at Food Allergy Research & Education's WALK for FOOD ALLERGY on Sunday October 27 at The Wild Duck Pond in Ridgewood from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
The FARE Walk unites thousands of Americans seeking a safe and inclusive world for people with food allergies. This potentially life-threatening disease affects up to 15 million Americans, including 1 in 13 children - roughly two in every classroom.
The FARE Walk is a family-friendly event that is taking place in more than 60 communities nationwide to fund food allergy education, advocacy, awareness, and research.
"A food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room every three minutes. Sadly, kids with food allergies know that one bite of the wrong food could have dangerous consequences, including anaphylaxis, a potentially deadly reaction. But it does not have to be that way. We are making great progress in developing life-saving treatments and programs," said John L. Lehr, chief executive officer of FARE. "Thanks to our generous sponsors and dedicated supporters, the day will come when we say FAREwell to food allergies."
Mylan is the presenting sponsor of the FARE Walk for Food Allergies. Additional national sponsors include: Sanofi (Elite Sponsor); So Delicious Dairy Free and SunButter (Platinum Sponsors); TOYOTA, uKnow Peanut, Abbott, and Allergic Living (Bronze Sponsors). Local sponsors include: Asthma & Allergy Specialists, PC., Boiling Springs Bank, Skeeters Snacks, Tru-Sweets, Happy Family to name a few. Returning this year is our amazing disc jockey, DJ Rob of Ultimate Entertainment as well as the carnival games from NY Fun Factory. For added fun and due to the timing of the Walk this year, we will also be hosting a safe, non-food Trick or Treat party. Each child that comes to the Walk will be given a bag to "Trick or Treat" at sponsor tables for a non-food treat.
Participants can sign up to walk individually or as part of a team. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, enabling businesses to show their support for families who are living with food allergies from day to day.
