Barn Theatre to Present 'Solstice Showcase' One-Act Festival, June 14-16

The Barn Theatre ushers in the summer with its "Solstice Showcase: 2013 One-Act Festival." The three-day event celebrates original works from rising theatrical artists, and features the talents over 20 performers from around New Jersey. Performances are on Friday, June 14, 2013 and Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 2 p.m.


The eight plays presented at each performance will include:

"Saver" written by Mark Harvey Levine, directed by Fred Halperin for Morristown. How much value is sentimental value? A family determines the fate of a suitcase full of souvenirs. Featuring Todd Mills of Boonton, Laura Kennedy of Denville, Kristin Bennett of Montville, and Raymond Van Steyn of Parsippany.

"The Missing Sneaker" written by Joe Wohlgemuth of Landing, directed by Eric Holgerson of Parsippany. A coming of age play about acceptance through the advice of a child's doll. Featuring Kim Mesiti of Bloomfield, Matthew Luminello of Morris Plains, and Jessica Prekel of Hackensack NJ.

"Family Business" written by Kay Poiro, directed by Anthony Rubolotta of Montclair. Two sisters question a glassblower about the disappearance of their stepsister and a deeper plot is revealed. Featuring Les Stolarz of Boonton, Vanessa Bellardini of Montclair, and Gira Marie Derise of Morris Plains.

"How About Cannons?" written by David Vazdauskas, directed by John Trumbull of Parsippany. In 1880, struggling with his latest composition, musician Peter Tchaikovsky gets an offbeat suggestion from his little brother Anatoly. Featuring Nick Pasquali of West Orange and Adam New of Kinnelon.

"Lucy Dreaming" written by Stacy Lane, directed by Craig Zimmermann of Rockaway. A restless insomniac desperately trying to fall asleep encounters her strange and elusive subconscious counterpart. Featuring Katie Mitchell of Morris Plains and Sarah Horwitz of Oak Ridge.

"Testify" written by Sean Fitts of Hackensack, directed by Jessica Phelan of Montclair. Three eye witnesses of the same crime share their different recollections of the event. Featuring Esteban Vazquez of Morristown, Kristin Barber-Furlong of Morris Plains, and Joe Guadara of Verona.

You Haven't Changed A Bit" written by Donna Hoke, directed by Stephen Catron of Mendham. After 50 years, Len and Lottie meet once again at their 70th high school reunion. Featuring Rich Maloy of Cedar Grove and Nancy Lee Ryan of West Orange.

"Two Puzzles Walk Into A Bar" written by Donna Hoke, directed by Claudia Metz of Boonton. A crossword puzzle and a Sudoku vie for the attention of a pencil at the end of the bar. Who will capture her heart in this battle between words vs. numbers! Featuring William Michael Harper of Roseland, and Christopher J. Perez of Cliffside Park.
