The BroadwayWorld Student Center is a comprehensive Student Database listing college and university performing arts programs across the country making it easier for prospective students by showcasing programs searchable by schools, location, degrees and concentrations.
The Student Center also offers a show calendar of college and high-school productions where schools can upload photos, videos, cast lists, articles and other media content for each of their shows. BWW will be combing through all content regularly and will launch weekly feature stories highlighting productions locally and nationally that have provided us with this extra content.
This week, BroadwayWorld Student Center is excited to announce that the Department of Theatre & Dance at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, is this week's School in the Spotlight!
The Department of Theatre & Dance educates students in the contemporary practice of theatre and dance within a liberal arts curriculum. True learning requires excitement. For students, excited by theatre and dance, our programs offer a path to intellectual growth and development surrounded by things they love. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, the Department provides a broad-based education that integrates physical, vocal and technical performance technique with the intellectual skill and training necessary for life long learning.
The Department of Theatre & Dance offers five tracks within the major: Acting/ Directing, Musical Theatre, Design/Technical, Pre-Teaching and Dance. The five tracks share a core curriculum of theatre arts courses while allowing students to extend study in their specific field of interest. Teaching certification is offered through a B.A./M.S.T program consisting of the Pre-Teaching Track in the B.A. program and the Master of Science in Teaching Theatre Education program in the College of Education. Undergraduate students from other majors may also share in our interdisciplinary activities by choosing to minor, or concentrate, in theatre or dance.
Production at Rowan consists annual performance season of theatre and dance in Tohill Theatre on the campus of Rowan University. An integral component of the curriculum of the Department of Theatre & Dance, the production program provides Rowan students a lab experience in theatre and dance performance, technical production, and design. In conjunction with Campus Players and Dance Extensions, four main stage productions, directed by faculty or guest artists, are mounted for the public annually in Tohill Theatre, a 535-seat proscenium theatre located in Bunce Hall.
In addition to the main stage season, the department also showcases performances by theatre and dance courses and by student performance groups, such as Lab Theatre. Each year, the completely student-produced Lab Theatre mounts three to four productions in the department's Studio Theatre, a 75-seat black box theatre.
Up next on the Rowan stage is FOR WHOM THE SOUTHERN BELLE TOLLS directed by Jenna Garrison which plays tonight, Nov. 9, thru tomorrow, Nov. 10 in the Studio Theatre. Other productions this year will include KILL ME NOW, WHO WILL CARRY THE WORD?, GUYS AND DOLLS, BUG as well as acting, choreography and directing showcases and senior projects.
