Milford Arts Council, in association with Pantochino Productions Inc., presents Amy Lynn and the Honey Men and their return to Nite Spot Nights at the MAC on Saturday, April 7 at 8pm. Singing Janis Joplin's greatest hits, Amy Lynn's unique sound and energy provides an unforgettable evening celebrating this rock and roll legend.
Amy and her horn-heavy band, The Honey Men, tear into Janis Joplin's ferocious songs while re-contextualizing them for 2018. Over the course of the show, Amy considers Janis's legacy as a sexually liberated, emotionally vulnerable woman in today's context, when such a person is only slightly less terrifying to the world than she would have been in the late 1960s. Songs include horn-powered arrangements of "Piece of My Heart," "Little Girl Blue," "A Woman Left Lonely," "Me and Bobby McGee," and more.
Broadway World exclaims, "Amy Lynn's mesmerizing voice is just as brassy as the horn section behind her, and she channels its power into an ardent belt that is masterfully controlled. She wails, riffs and screlts (screamed-belt) with precision and artistic clarity, using these musical flourishes to empower her performance and heighten the depth of the emotions in the music and lyrics."
This show is one of six Nite Spot Nights which offer 'night club' style evenings of live music. Evoking the feeling of New York City cabaret rooms, this series is a varied collection of musical performances by some of the city's hottest acts. To enhance the experience, the Milford Center for the Arts is set with tables and chairs in a cozy, candlelit, cabaret setting, inviting patrons to bring along the food and drink of their choice (It's BYOEEE: Bring Your Own Everything Except the Entertainment). The Speakeasy Lounge also offers an option to purchase concessions, including select wines.
Paige Miglio, Executive Director of Milford Arts Council proclaims, "We are very excited to be working with Pantochino in welcoming such amazing talent to Milford. You no longer have to head to the city, we are bringing the city to you!" And Bert Bernardi of Pantochino adds, "This is the perfect program to expand what we offer." We love bringing something unique and different to our audiences-it's what we do."
