All Female Comedy Show Takes Over Edison ImageAn all female stand-up comedy show lands in Edison, New Jersey to help kick off the month of mother's day. Just Be You Performing Arts will host the event on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the historic Edison Valley Playhouse in Edison, New Jersey from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.. The Second Annual Mother's Day Masquerade Comedy and Fashion Showcase is an evening packed with live vocal performances, a runway fashion show, and the debut of the organization's all female stand-up comedy showcase.

All Female Comedy Show Debut:

Starring bold and fearless stand-up comic, Vernita Bostick, who brought down the house at the organization's 1st Annual Mother's Day Masquerade, that was held to a sold-out audience in May of 2017, at Hamilton Stage of the Performance Arts in Rahway, New Jersey. Also a school teacher, Vernita is setting Jersey ablaze, with her outspoken comedy that will make you laugh even if you don't want to.

Also on-stage to bring the laughter is marvelous and multi-talented stand-up comic, Candace Kelley. Her fans know her from New York and love her one-of-a-kind take on politics and pop culture. Candace is also a writer, producer, journalist, and entreprenuer.

The show also guest stars female stand-up comedian, Leslie Battle, from Columbus, Ohio. Battle's humor includes stories from her life as a soldier, a mom, and a divorcee' as well as observations about American pop culture.

The event also features an open mic segment for aspiring female comics. Introducing New York and New Jersey comedians: Shari Linick, Sophia Gutchinov, Amy Veltman and Deanna Kobus. These women each have a unique style of stand-up comedy to present during the showcase. They also have strong insight on the challenges of being a female stand-up comedian.

"The hardest part of being a female comic is that comedy is a male dominated industry and women in comedy are more heavily judged by how they look. Women are excellent comics, because women often are socialized to think about the needs of others, which translates into comedy, because you can think about a bit from multiple points of view. I am excited to be part of all female show, to support other women comics, who know the struggle of what is means to be a woman in comedy", said Kobus, of Hillside, New Jersey.

"I think women make great stand-ups because it is a great reminder to everyone that women shouldn't take themselves so seriously and to just let loose sometimes. I love when women talk about things in stand-up that is seen as taboo, because it's the best when women can relate to each other through laughter," said Gutchinov, of New York, New York.

The event is directed and produced by working mom and producer; Mahogany Reynolds-Clarke, the creator of the innovative comedy show, "Cracking Up In Rahway".

"We are beyond thrilled to bring this show to the diverse city of Edison. Having a platform for female comedians to showcase their talent is so exciting," said Reynolds-Clarke, founder and executive director of Just Be You Performing Arts.
