The Alexander Kasser Theater

Continuing a mission to turn classical music on its ear, renowned pianist Christopher O'Riley returns to Peak Performances in a duo program with Montclair native Carter Brey, the principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic. Together, these two mavericks of the music world will join to form a can't-miss combination.

WORLD PREMIERE - A PEAK COMMISSION

Imani Winds with Simon Shaheen
The Zafir Project
FEB. 6 @ 3:00pm

The Alexander Kasser Theater

Since forming in 1997, Imani Winds has brought a fun and eclectic vibrancy to the world of chamber music. This Grammy-nominated ensemble deftly blends African, Latin and American influences to create striking new horizons.

The commitment of Imani Winds to world music is illustrated perfectly in The Zafir Project. Joining with acclaimed Palestinian oud and violin artist Simon Shaheen, this world-premiere collaboration Will Powerfully expand the European canon and provide an extremely moving experience. Also included will be performances of works by Gamal Abdel-Rahim, Manuel De Falla, Miguel del Aguila and a selection of Klezmer dances arranged by Gene Kavadlo.

Zafir was co-commissioned by Peak Performances @ Montclair State (NJ), the University of Notre Dame's DeBartolo Performing Arts Center, and the Chamber Music America Commissioning Program, with funding generously provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, and the Chamber Music America Endowment Fund.
