In celebration of our inaugural year, the Epping Community Theater is reaching back to the roots of the Epping Rec Dept and their connection to community theater with a fantastic musical production of The Wizard of Oz! In 1972 the newly formed Epping Rec Dept produced this musical as a way to fulfill their mission of providing opportunities to bring the community together. Since then the Rec Dept decided to leave community theater in the capable hands of the Leddy Center founders. However, upon their retirement, theater in Epping has made its way back under the realm of the Rec Dept. in the formation of the Epping Community Theater. We saw it fitting to honor this homecoming with the same musical production 47 years later! Join the Epping Community Theater as we tell the original tale of L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz! Your whole family will enjoy the familiar tale of Dorothy Gale, a young girl from Kansas, and her dog Toto. In escaping the clutches of her nasty neighbor, they get swept up by a twister and embark on an amazing adventure to discover the true meaning of self worth and the importance of friends. With a few differences to the movie, this version, from the original story, tells the tale of Dorothy and her friends being chased by the Wicked Witch as she tries to get her hands on the silver slippers (ruby slippers were a Hollywood creation!). You're bound to fall in love all over again with the classic and lovable characters Dorothy calls her friends. Glinda (the Good Witch), the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Munchkins will sing and dance their way into your heart just as you remember. Tickets are on sale now! Oct 18th-27th, Fri and Sat 7:30pm and Sun 2 pm matinee. Showing at the Epping Playhouse, 38c Ladds Lane, Epping, Go to www.eppingtheater.org or our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/EppingTheater/ for more information and tickets.
