Hatbox Theatre’s eighth season kicks off with a new adaptation of the classic comedy The Government Inspector.
When the locals in a small Russian hamlet learn that an undercover government inspector is in the area to investigate possible corruption, an unfortunate case of mistaken identity sends the whole village spiraling out of control in a frenetic burst of panic and greed.
The Government Inspector, Nikolai Gogol’s classic satire of bureaucracy and politics has been updated by playwright Jeffrey Hatcher (Holmes and Watson) into a silly romp filled with slapstick, sex, stupidity, bad food, and lots of vodka. Some may remember it as the basis for the classic film The Inspector General, with Danny Kaye. This production features beautiful costumes, elaborate gags, and a large cast of some of NH’s best actors, all under the direction of stage veteran Gary Locke.
Opening October 7th to the 23rd, don’t miss Phylloxera Productions’ The Government Inspector. Fridays & Saturdays @ 7:30pm; Sundays @ 2pm. Adults: $22, Students/Seniors/Members: $19, Senior Members: $16. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.hatboxnh.com or by calling 603-715-2315.
