Drawing on the ‘local color’ tales of writer, painter, carver and boat builder, George Savary Wasson, Pontine Theatre brings the salt-crusted denizens of Killick Cove to the stage. Wasson’s stories, published as “Cap’n Simeon’s Store,” “Home From Sea,” and “The Green Shay,” are based upon his neighbors and acquaintances in Kittery Point, ME, circa 1900. These stories of the elder generation of deep-sea fishermen are told in their own dialect; sitting around the hospitable fire of Cap’n Simeon’s Store, they spin their yarns of shipwrecks and storms, ghosts and witchcraft, the insufferable summer “rusticators,” and life and death on the great deep.
