Tess Chakkalakal presents her new book, A MATTER OF COMPLEXION, which provides the first comprehensive biography of Charles W. Chesnutt, the first Black writer to make significant inroads into the all-white literary world. On February 12, Chakkalakal will delve into Chesnutt's journey from a mixed-race teacher in post-Civil War North Carolina to a celebrated author, winning admirers like Booker T. Washington and Ida B. Wells. The event will feature a conversation with moderator Ian Aldrich, an audience Q&A, and a post-show meet-and-greet.
