The Palace Theatre announced today that it has been selected as the 2012 Outstanding Historic Theatre by the League of Historic American Theatres. This Award celebrates excellence in recognizing theatres for the preservation, restoration and sustainable operation of historic theatres throughout North America.

The 2012 Outstanding Historic Theatre award to the Palace Theatre in downtown Manchester, New Hampshire was announced during a luncheon on July 18, 2012, opening the League’s 36th Anniversary Conference, hosted by San Diego Theatres, in San Diego, California.

The Outstanding Historic Theatre Award recognizes that the Palace Theatre has demonstrated excellence through its significant community impact, quality of programs and services, and quality of the restoration or rehabilitation of its historic structure.

The Palace Theatre has been a landmark in Manchester -- in various states of grandeur and disarray-- for nearly 100 years. It is a magnificent and historic attraction that has withstood the test of time including flood, fire and economic draught. Thanks to the generosity of thousands of donors each year, the Palace Theatre is a beautifully restored professional performing arts center which serves as a cornerstone of New Hampshire’s thriving arts and entertainment scene and is a vital part of Manchester, New Hampshire’s downtown economic and social community.

In his speech to accept the award, Palace Theatre Artistic Director, Carl Rajotte stated, “Personally, I have been thrilled to show our audiences the production value we have achieved to date both artistically and technically. I am so proud of what we have accomplished and I am thrilled that the League of Historic American Theatres has seen fit to recognize those accomplishments.”

“The Palace Theatre honored to receive this award on behalf of the Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers, and stakeholders of the non profit Palace Theatre and we are thrilled to have been selected for this award. We sincerely thank the League and the patrons, donors, sponsors, children and teens that the Palace Theatre serves every day. It is truly an honor to be acknowledged,” states Peter Ramsey, Palace Theatre President.
