An American in Paris was first produced as a musical film by powerhouse studio MGM in 1951. It starred Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron. It won 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture. It remains one of the great Hollywood musicals of all time. Flash forward sixty-four years and it is adapted for the Broadway stage and wins 4 Tony Awards. It has a great love story and perfect score with memorable songs including "I Got Rhythm," "S'Wonderful," and "Tra La La."
An American GI's chance encounter with a beautiful young dancer leads Paris to become the backdrop to a sensuous, modern romance of art, friendship and love in the aftermath of World War II. The breathtakingly beautiful An American in Paris will be screened exclusively at The Park Theatre's River Street Theatre (RST) in downtown Jaffrey on Thursday, September 20 at 7pm and again on Sunday, September 23 at 2pm.urnal).Tickets for this special RST Stage2Screen event, An American in Paris, are $15 each.
