"Theatre is very much a whole-evening event. People don't usually just pop out to see a show, they go out to dinner, they grab drinks. We wanted play with that experience as one artistic whole," says Interim Artistic Director Miles Burns.
Previously the Rep has made foray with food-theatre collaborations with its series Eat It Up: Food Talks! Burns sees a lot of crossover between restaurants and theatre, and in a city with so many great restaurants on the Seacoast, he feels it's only natural to work together.
"Both of our industries have this similar artistic process, where you have a team that works on this this ephemeral piece of art or food that you recreate and hone night after night."
The Book & CaBARet Event on March 19th at 6:00pm is a collaboration between Burns and Chef Andrew Tiebout. Tiebout will present six different dishes themed after the remaining six shows in the Rep's season while performers from the Rep perform a cabaret of musical selections from the season. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Seacoast Rep.
"We're really looking forward to this event," says Tiebout. "It's a creative challenge that our staff can get excited about, and the price is low enough that it's accessible."
The Rep is actively looking for other restaurant collaborators.
Tickets to Book & CaBARet event are $35 per person and available by emailing the Rep at Kathleen@SeacoastRep.org or by calling the Box Office at 603-433-4793 ext 111.
