The Seacoast Repertory Theatre will open its 26th season on the seacoast with Hair. This powerful rock musical is a social commentary of our times, providing insight into the philosophy of the flower children of the 1960's.
Directed by Portsmouth native Bryan Knowlton, Hair puts rock music and the culture that went with it on stage in a powerful story that bridges generations and viewpoints. What looks like incredible chaos is actually organized chaos. Phenomenal musical numbers include Aquarius, Good Morning Starshine, I Believe in Love, Hair, I Got Life, What a Piece of Work Is Man and Hippie Life.
Knowlton landed his first role at the age of 12 as an understudy in's Hansel and Gretel and credits the Rep for his love of theatre. He left N.H. in 2000 to study concert dance in Philadelphia. The next year he moved to NYC and has been there ever since. He performed in the 1st National Tour of Cameron Mackintosh's "OLIVER!" for two years; then starred as Paul in A Chorus Line on Broadway for two years.
Knowlton has had a very long history with A Chorus Line, including 1st National, Hawaii, Pittsburgh CLO, Marriott Chicago, and most recently at The Olney Theater where he received a Helen Hayes Award Nomination for Leading Actor in Musical. In 2008 he (and the ACL cast) appeared in the 100th episode of Dancing with The Stars. Knowlton also directed The Rep's 2013 season opener 'A Chorus Line' and choreographed Hair in 2001.
